Disneyworld 2009

Disneyworld. Who is that pirate?

He looks scary to me. David does not like anything on his skin - like the stamps that most kids like. (Nothing like Dad - who knows where he picked that trait up.)

But today - David made an exception. He sat still for the make-up artist from start to finish.

He even wore it outside - a proud pirate (a tired pirate by the end of the day when he pointed to the make-up and said "off"). Good thing we got these pictures while we could.

We also went to the Animal Kingdom and saw rhinos, gorillas, crocks - well you name it.

It was pretty cool. We even saw a living - moving - tree.

Bubbie wanted to know how they got it to move like that. Soon the tree and Bubbie became best friends.

David started getting sleepy on our way up Mount Everest. It was quite a climb.

Once David woke up from his brief nap, he had to see Mickey. So we waited in line for an hour - the classic Disney snakelike lines to make you feel like you are moving somewhere. They had a cartoon clip playing in the background (the same clip over and over again). When we finally mad it to Mickey - to get that professional photo shoot with his idol - what happened. Take a look.

Yes - David lost it. He did not want to be that close to those larger than life size images of Mickey. So we waited all that time and it was a bust. (Normally, we used fast-passes and parent swap tickets for everything else to really speed through the lines). Well - it made it memorable - right?
Bubbie and David got into a laugh fest during one of the breaks. (Take a look or a listen by clicking here.)

Yes - the parents had some fun too. Here is a shot of us going on one of the best roller coaster rides in the park - it was cool. Make sure you see how calm Summer is in this shot. (See the video clip too.)

Well - we had a great time and ended the trip and the year with some serious fireworks. Happy 2009 - and almost 2010.

Happy Hanukkah 2009

Happy Hanukkah 2009!

Did we have fun or what? David did the prayer over the candles. Listen if you like - just click here. (You will also see a tiny video of him going at it with unbridled enthusiasm - I kid you not.)

We all lit the candles each night and shared food, stories, and of course presents.

This family shot captures the chemistry in the house. David is leading with the candles, Dad is in the background (running like crazy to get the time exposure shot and make it in the picture in time), Summer has made sure everything is in place, and Sarah is proud and happy - has a job, got offered admission at Bard, asked to act in a Shakespearean play, and the list goes on. She is a happy camper.

One of his toys was a set of power tools. No Dad did not get it for him but they look exactly like Dad's tools and David loved it. All week he called himself a worker including the headphones to protect his ears from the noise of the sawsall and power drill. He was riding hi. Dad gave him a piece of wood as a special present to drill (instead of the furniture) and he loved it (cherished that wood). He also let us know how careful we should be because the tools could be dangerous. What a man! Happy Hanukkah!
