Bris

The Bris

We celebrated David Mark Fetterman II's new life with a Bris - a traditional Jewish ceremony. It consists of the ritual circumcision (which we had performed in the Lucille Packard Children's Hospital with a smaller accompanying ritual) and the naming of the baby. We have provided a glimpse into the ceremony with a brief video. Join us in celebrating his birth, fulfilling the covenant, and witnessing his first step into Jewish life. (Click on the picture in the top right to view the video.)

We have also provided you with a summary of photos to help capture the journey if you have just joined us at this late date. (Click here to view the first moments of life on this journey with his family all around to care for him.)

Dear David,

This is such wonderful news!! What a blessing and delight to your
family. It sounds like Summer had to stay in the hospital longer than
usual for a birth -- is everything all right? I hope you are going to take
some time to relax and enjoy at home. Again, many blessings to you all.

Dear David,

Congratulations on the birth of your beautiful son. He is absolutely gorgeous. You are really blessed. Your daughter Sarah is also a very lovely young woman. She looks to be about 15 or 16...maybe older. I would enjoy hearing about her too. This feels so wierd to be talking again after so many (30+?) years. I also remember well the times spent wandering through UConn campus in a group. It was interesting to hear you remember my brother John and my friend Karen. I'm in touch with them both on a weekly basis. John went to Harvard Divinity School and became a Unitarian minister. He's now out in Phoenix. Karen and her husband live in the Denver area. ...Speaking of Amherst, does your mother still live here? I remember reading an article in the newspaper about her years ago, so I know she lived here at one point. I checked out your web site and I have to say I was very impressed, but not surprized. I always knew you were really smart, but what I remember most is your wit and how much fun it was to be around you. You better keep me away from your kids or I might tell all. (:

Take care,

Kathi

DF: Many thanks Ann - he is a little blessing - hard to stop watching him at night. It is amazing how small and how soft they are at this age. I guess I forgot about that part. Birth becomes a big reminder about the little joys we have in life that come to us for free (well that and a few sleepless nights).

Glad to share this life experience with you. Take care.
