Summer in Monterey
Monterey. This is our little get away. I know you have been wondering, where has that Fetterman family been. Well Sarah is off to college but we spent our weekends here in Monterey.
The first shot is from the stairs looking down at the pool. (We thought it was too cold to try until David convinced us to give it a shot. Who knew it was heated! It was great.)
Next you can see our living room -nice paintings.
Who watched TV at a place like this? (OK David watched educational television early in the morning, while we slept in. Don't be to envious he asked for me to join him to watch every 15 to 30 minutes, but you would be surprised just how much sleep you can get every 14 minutes with just modest interruptions of: "Dad, what are you doing? Come watch with me. I am hungry. I starving.") Ok - when he went to bed we watched a little TV ourselves.
Plenty of great meals and time for making wooden toys from kits at this table.
Of course, when he did not have time for us he was busy working on the iPad. Not even four and he knows how to use the iPad. He will be part of a entirely new generation where this will be as natural as breathing, running, and playing.
You remember I mentioned we slept in some time. Well, this is where we slept. Hard to believe, but there was nothing like sleeping in when we could not to mention a great night sleep after a full day with the Big Boy.
Ok - back to the living room. You ask: "what did they do down there, especially when it is cloudy?" Good question. Our response, the same as everyone else: "peek-a-boo" from inside the ottoman. What else would you use it for?
Yes - a full morning of "peek-a-boo" and building wooden toys (and painting them), not to mention making Williams and Sonoma waffles (a great mix), means nap time (with a book of course). We repeated this performance with our night time ritual of reading. Three books if we were a good boy (and brushed our teeth) and only two books or one if we had a bit of a melt down. Hey, don't knock it. It works.
Ok - why does anyone really come to Monterey? The beach. Asilomar is great. A bit windy but he loves it. We love it. (Even Bitsy loves it.)
Is that some attitude showing? Are you supposed to be standing that far out on the rocks? That look of his: a bit mischievous, wouldn't you say?
But most of the time, what a great guy. Happy, full of life. Really enjoys and is amazed by everything, especially at the beach.
You remember I mentioned running and playing a few minutes ago in reference to David's use of the iPad. Well don't worry he is a little boy - all boy trust me. Mr. Nonstop energy. Take a look at these shots - at the Denis the Menace Park. (A fitting name and place if you know the other side of this little man.)
Oh, how did that shot get in there. Well we like to have some fun too. This is the place we chose to get married. Not the park, the Monterey Bay Aquarium. But when we are not at the Aquarium, guess what we are at the park or the beach or back to our little hide away.
We are trying to teach him to capture some of these moments himself because they go by so quickly. He is a quick study. Did you see his pictures of Sarah's graduation. Aside from the shots of everyone's shoes he did a pretty good job.
Well so long to Monterey for the summer. It was a nice escape.
As you can see David has a different opinion, as he runs back to the compound. See you Monterey - catch you next summer.
